Channing Tatum is the most recent celebrity to address comedian Dave Chappelle’s controversial comments surrounding the LGBTQ community in Netflix’s ‘The Closer’.

Channing Tatum Speaks Out Against Dave Chappelle’s Controversial Comments Towards The LGBTQ Community

The comedian, for his part, was singled out after making some comments that stirred up the conversation over whether the LGBTQ community should have the same rights as any other group.

In his show entitled ‘Closer,’ Dave endorsed Harry Potter author J K Rowling’s stance that transgender women should not be considered when it comes to talking about feminism.

And given that we live in a time where we have a cancel culture, in addition to the idea that populism is something that must be respected, Dave’s comments touched a nerve.

The comment in question stated: “They [some people] look at transgender women the way we Blacks look at Blackface. They go ‘oh, this b—- is doing an impression of me!”

The criticism soon emerged as the star was labelled, just like J K Rowling, as a ‘trans-exclusionary radical feminist.’ Rather than backing down, though, Dave took that label in his stride and embraced it.

In response to his haters, he remarked: “[I am a ] TERF.” The reaction on social media was mixed. Some felt that this was part of Dave’s nature, given that he is an outspoken comedian.

Therefore, he should be able to have freedom of speech and say whatever he feels. And yet, others thought that he was being transphobic.

Actor Channing Tatum pandered towards the latter view, as he was concerned by the manner in which Dave’s comments could cause offence. And he made sure that he expressed his feelings to his fanbase.

In a post to his fans on Instagram, Channing sought to distance himself from the comedian. He said: “I understand that Dave is a very dangerous person to talk about at the moment.

“I understand and hate that he has hurt so many people with things he has said. Any human can hurt someone, but any human can heal and heal others just the same.”

Dave has yet to respond to what Channing has said, but given what we know about him, it will take a lot for him to retract his comments.
