‘Welcome to Plathville’ Spoilers tells that, at the start of this journey just how bonded to Ethan that sister Lydia Plath was. In the first season we saw them together as siblings but they just seemed to have a normal sibling relationship.
However, clearly they had a deep bond off-camera that we knew nothing about because Lydia has taken to her prayer closet to talk to God about seeing her big brother again. It was a sweet and earnest prayer, but at this point… someone needs to educate Lydia about free will, and the fact that someitmes its up to the humans involved and not the divine to work things out.

Of course, Lydia may not believe that as deeply entrenched in her beliefs as she is. That’s a failure on Kim and Barry’s part though, and that is what garners sympathy for Lydia here because she’s only going by what she’s been taught.
That prayer fixes everything and that God treats all prayer equally, indeed He does, but when the human parties involved are unwilling… free will comes into play. It seems that both Kim, Barry, Ethan, and Olivia, aren’t really budging in their spat anytime soon.
Kim wants things her way, and Ethan is set to go his own way, which he’s entitled to do, he’s a married man and out of their house, after all. Poor Lydia doesn’t seem to grasp quite yet that sometimes there are some feelings that simply can’t be swallowed.
One wonders though, what kind of relationship did these two siblings have that Lydia is so desperate to get back? What does she want to talk to Ethan about that she can’t talk to Micah or Moriah about? True, there is no replacing Ethan as her big brother but she seems to place a special importance on just him.
She has not ever mentioned Olivia at all, in fact she doesn’t really seem to acknowledge that she exists, unlike Moriah who really embraced Olivia as a sister, Lydia is decidedly more reserved when it comes to Ethan’s wife. Could this be a little bit of jealousy on Lydia’s part or could it just be that she’s been exposed to too many of Kim’s opinions? Stay tuned!!!
