‘Welcome to Plathville’ Spoilers tells that, trying to date inside a fundamentalist circle is kind of like trying to pass different levels of a video game, especially for an outsider. (Actually, I’m not sure that Max is an outsider but even if he isn’t he seems like the type who’s family is decidedly less fundamentalist than the Plaths.)
His mission was to get Moriah a promise ring for her pinkie, however, he needed to know her ring size first, and that was going to take some finagling, especially since he didn’t want Kim and Barry Plath to find out, at least not yet.
‘Welcome to Plathville’: Mission Successful! Max passed the first boss!
He says that it’s because he doesn’t want any pressure from the Plaths to do something that he obviously isn’t ready to do yet. Neither he or Moriah are ready to get married, they’re just 18 years old. However, he does want to put the possibility on the table that someday, provided their relationship progresses, that he wants to marry Moriah, which is really sweet and honorable.
He says the less people he includes, the bigger the surprise will be. It’s also a really smart move, because if Kim and Barry knew Max’s plans, no doubt they would be on him to marry Moriah and start pumping out babies quiverfull style ASAP. Either that, or they’d straight up forbid them from seeing each other.
But it looks like Max’s first mission was a success, he managed to give Lydia the correct non-verbal cues that he wanted to talk to her, and managed to get her alone in the living room while Kim was cooking and Micah had successfully distracted the rest of the family to ask Lydia about the ring size.
Lydia was all on-board and thought it was the sweetest thing when Max told her that Moriah was the one that he wanted (her happiness for her sister was adorable, aww!), when he asked her to get her ring size though, Lydia presented an intersting conundrum. “I’m sure my Mom has one.” meaning, of Moriah’s rings.
‘Welcome to Plathville’: Cue the psycho theme.
Hopefully, Lydia can tag-team this whole operation successfully and get the ring before Kim and Barry catch on. Although… somehow this operation may be a fumble, I just have a feeling. Stay tuned!!!
