Katie Thurston has opened up on her prior experience of potentially having cancer at the age of 20.

The star, who is the current lead on The Bachelorette, has always been very open with her fans. She has admitted that she has suffered from sexual assault in the past, and in keeping with disclosing very sensitive parts of her life, Katie admitted that she had to undergo a lumpectomy.
This is an operation whereby the lump is removed from the breast in order to prevent it from becoming cancerous. That has left some scars that Katie continues to live with today. In a post to her fans on Instagram, she said: “I often get questions about my scar. It’s from a lumpectomy after finding a lump in my breast. Because I was only 20, I discovered this on my own.”
This was a major shock, as Katie was heading towards the best part of her life. After all, she was ready to make a name for herself in the world.
But with that scare, it taught her to always keep a firm grip on one’s health. That is why she has decided to make a major change in her diet and the general lifestyle that she leads. She added: “Typically, women don’t get routine mammograms until their 40s, so it’s important to be your biggest advocate when it comes to your own personal health.”
Those comments really did hit home. She cited Michael Allio as a prime example of some of the things that can go wrong if cancer is not detected and treated. Michael’s wife Laura had sadly passed away in 2019 after she lost her long battle with breast cancer.
A foundation has been set up in her memory to help those going through similar struggles. And Katie made sure that it was recognised. She continued: “I want to take this moment and highlight @TheL4Project, which @Michael_AllioL4 has founded as a way to carry on Laura’s legacy.”
It was very brave for Katie to share her experience with the whole world, and she serves as an example to others that you can overcome such difficulties.
