Smash hit sitcom ‘Friends Reunion’ had a ton of guest stars make cameos or even take on recurring roles over its 10 years on the air. One megastar who was almost cast in season 9 was the one and only Tom Hanks!

So, who would acting legend, Hanks have played? Ross and Rachel’s nanny-Sandy!

As the Friends reunion- The One Where They Get Back Together trends on HBO Max, Entertainment Weekly spoke to the man who did score the role of Sandy, in the episode titled: The One with the Male Nanny, Freddie Prinze Jnr.

‘Friends Reunion’: Tom Hanks- The Manny?

“I wasn’t even supposed to be [Sandy],” Prinze explained when asked about his time on the Friends set. “That was originally offered to Tom Hanks but he wasn’t going make it back from his film on time.”

Prinze further explained that when his agent called to ask if he wanted to take the role of Sandy, he jumped at it (who wouldn’t). ‘Yeah, I’ll do an episode of Friends. That’ll be great,’ Prinze told his agent. Little did he know how little time he’d have to prepare. Prinze was on the set the very next day!

Prinze went on to dish about his character’s idiosyncrasies, specifically his use of the recorder to soothe Ross and Rachel’s daughter, Emma.

“I’d never played it [the recorder] before,” Prinze revealed, saying his last four hours on the Friends set were spent learning ‘Greensleeves’ so he could play it for the baby.

Can anyone see Tom Hanks playing classical music on a recorder? Yes, we all can, because Hanks can do anything. Not to take away from Prinze who did an excellent job in the Sandy role, especially seeing as he only got the script the night before he started shooting!

Unfortunately Prinze is not a part of the one-off unscripted special, The One Where They Get Back Together, but there are a ton of faces from the decade of laughs that do appear.

Catch The One Where They Get Back Together on HBO Max as of Thursday, May 27!
