‘The Bachelorette’ star and winner of season 16(B) Zac Clark has been open about his past addiction struggles and his time in rehab. Now he is likening his experience on the ABC reality show to that rehab experience!

“The bubble alone was like being in rehab,” he said on a podcast this Monday. “Talking about your feelings in front of this camera, you know? Be amongst a bunch of other dudes.”

He also claimed that being a part of 31 men vying for the heart of not one, but two Bachelorettes “just wasn’t that dramatic” compared to his substance abuse struggles.

Zac went on to detail how his addiction to alcohol recovery gave him a competitive advantage, ultimately preparing him for high-pressure situations, which is how The Bachelor and The Bachelorette are often described by past contestants.

Certainly the fact that he woke up bright eyed, bushy tailed and with his eye on the prize- his beautiful (now) fiancé, Tayshia Adams, each morning was a plus when compared to the men awaking with hangovers from imbibing just a little too much at the cocktail party the night before.

Zac also explained how, thanks to his counselling during rehab, he could realize his time on the show was “just another one of those experiences where, like, I know at the end of the day I’m not in control here.”

Ultimately Zac’s laidback attitude was one of the things that attracted Tayshia to him. For his part, he sings Tayshia’s praises in regards to her open-mindedness when it comes to her fiancé being ‘sober’.

“She didn’t have any direct experience with it, but she definitely had an open mind, and she asked all the right questions,” he gushed on a different podcast earlier this year.  He also explained that now the pair live together in New York,  Tayshia has met his sober friends, many with wives or girlfriends who are not. This has helped Tayshia navigate being a partner to a sober man.

“We have a s–load of fun still and we’re not like wet blankets,” he explained of sober folks. He also said that Tayshia liked to know “that she’s not alone, that there’s other people out there.”

Tayshia  has just wrapped season 17 of The Bachelorette in New Mexico where she acted as co-host with Kaitlyn Bristowe while Chris Harrison has stepped aside from his usual hosting duties. Katie Thurston’s Bachelorette season 17 is set to air on June 7 on ABC.
