Demi Lovato has revealed how she has began to see life differently following her drugs overdose in 2018.

Demi Lovato Grateful For Surviving Her Drugs Overdose

In an interview on CBS, Demi stated how thankful she was to still be on this earth. She said: “The doctors told me that I had five to 10 minutes. Like, if no one had found me, then I wouldn’t be here. And I’m grateful that I’m sitting here today.” Demi has, for her part, tried to enjoy her life since the terrible ordeal. She has made a conscious decision to take a break from the dating scene in order to focus on herself.

That has not come without its challenges, though. Demi has stressed that she is not seeking to give up drink and drugs altogether but instead find a balance just as she had done with her previous eating disorder. This led to widespread concern amongst fans, given Demi’s history with substance abuse. In addition, her father went through similar issues before his passing. That has not fazed Demi, however.

She added: “I would say that, like, I think the term that I best identify with is California sober. I am cautious to say that just like I feel the complete abstinent method isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution for everybody, I don’t think that this journey of moderation is a one-size-fits-all solution for everybody, too.”

But it is also important to note that Demi must consider her wider family too. She stated how she could not even recognise her own sister, in the aftermath of the overdose in hospital, as “she was legally blind, and that she is still dealing with hearing loss, tinnitus and blind spots in her vision.” Given that traumatic experience, Demi looks like she has paid attention to those struggles, which have gone on to positively impact her.

She continued: “I feel good. I feel more joy in my life than I’ve ever felt because [I’m not] quieting or diminishing any part of myself.” It is good to see Demi trying to move past her struggles. It is not done and dusted, but she is clearly on the right track to redeeming herself and finding some happiness.
