British Royal Family News: The Royals Are Split Over How To Respond To Harry And Meghan’s Interview
A source revealed as much: “Charles and the Queen had very different plans for how to respond. Charles wanted to rebuke every claim made by Meghan and Harry, and the Queen wanted to take a more modest approach. [Charles] especially wanted to make a statement against the allegation that someone in the royal family was worried about how dark Archie’s skin would be,[however he was] overruled by other members of the family.”
This should come as no surprise, given that there were many allegations made. By making a public statement, the Royals risk facing further fury from the public, which would play into Harry and Meghan’s hands. And yet, by staying silent, it would merely reinforce the duo’s feelings against the Royals: namely, that there was an agenda against the couple, which was aimed at tarnishing them.
That would echo what sources had confirmed earlier. Prince Charles was very frank in his feelings and felt that Harry had done the Royals a disservice. An insider told Us Weekly that Prince Charles was outraged at how they raised their grievances: “Charles does not agree with Harry trashing his whole family in public. Charles thinks these matters could have easily been addressed in private.
“[Charles and Prince William] feel that this is the first of many interviews coming in the future that will bash the crown and the Royals way of life.” The Queen, for her part, will want to stop the scandal from escalating any further. Given that she is the current monarch, it would be in her best interests to deal with such things behind closed doors.
But she will have to make a better effort than the first time, especially since Meghan was vocal about being let down. In her interview with CBS, Meghan stated what a former Royal staff member had told her: “They said, ‘My heart goes out to you, but there’s nothing we can do to protect you because you’re not a paid employee of the institution.” This saga will have to be dealt with carefully.
