Bratz Dolls’ official Instagram page has kick off a month of tributes to inspirational women with late musician Sophie Xeon, known as simply Sophie. On March 8, International Women’s Day, Bratz posted their tribute with a picture of a Sophie Bratz doll:

And finally a timeline of her career and personal life, explaining how Sophie came out as a trans woman in 2017.
Thousands of people, most who likely wouldn’t usually follow the Bratz Instagram page have come out in support of Bratz’s tribute- mainly because of how it normalizes who a woman is to those who do follow the Bratz Instagram page- young girls.
This kind of inclusion is unprecedented and can only be a positive thing.
Way back when I was a girl- sometime between the Fall of Rome and the invention of the iPhone- we had Barbie to thank for giving us aspirations of becoming an astronaut and developing an eating disorder.
Bratz have been condemned by some for perpetuating …well, brats. Some of the clothing choices Bratz dolls come with and the heavy make-up have been strongly criticized- kind of like Barbie and her 39 double F cups.
I am sure there will be even more attacks on the brand now as backlash from the ultra-conservative will surely come. However, what Bratz have done for the inclusion of transwomen can not be undone, and nor should it.
This isn’t the first time Bratz have supported the LGBTQ+ community. In 2019 for Pride Month, two of the dolls in their lineup , Nevra and Roxxi were confirmed to be in a relationship with each other.
Sophie was a avant-garde Scottish pop visionary who has collaborated with the likes of Madonna and Charlie XCX . She tragically died in January of this year after slipping from the roof of her Athens home after she had climbed up there to watch the full moon. I am sure she would be touched by this well-deserved tribute.
