Westworld star, Evan Rachel Wood has spoken publicly in the past about alleged abuse she suffered at the hands of an unnamed ex-boyfriend. As of today, that ex has been named. He is Brian Warner- aka Marilyn Manson.
In an Instagram post Wood wrote
“The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson,” Wood wrote. “He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives. I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent.”
Marilyn Manson Allegedly “Horrifically Abused” Evan Rachel Wood For Years
Four other women have come forward, backing Wood’s claims and describing their own accounts of physical assault and psychological abuse suffered from Warner/Manson.
In 2018, Wood became a violence against women activist when she testified in hopes to get the Sexual Assault Survivors’ Bill of Rights passed throughout the entire country and again on behalf of another legislation that altered the statute of limitations for crimes involving domestic violence. In her testimonies she’d detailed her experience as “toxic mental, physical and sexual abuse which started slow but escalated over time, including threats against my life, severe gaslighting and brainwashing, waking up to the man that claimed to love me raping what he believed to be my unconscious body.”
Though she did not name the perpetrator in the courts, the public finger was pointed at Manson who denied all allegations, even though he had been quoted in 2009 in Spin Magazine as saying, “I have fantasies every day about smashing her skull in with a sledgehammer.” He was speaking of Wood who met Manson when she was 18 and he was 36.
In the climate of #MeToo, a journalist readdressed the horrific 2009 comment but Manson reps responded by saying the quote was “obviously a theatrical rock star interview promoting a new record, and not a factual account.”
No comment has been made yet my Manson’s reps this time and no comment yet form Rose McGowan, one of the figureheads of the #MeToo movement. McGowan was in a relationship, even engaged to Manson 20 years ago. When discussing why she called off their 2001 engagement, Gowan cited “lifestyle differences” and later further commented on his excessive drug use. No allegations of abuse were made by McGowan. It will be interesting to see if this changes in the future.
