Being the first black Bachelor is a lot of responsibility for Matt James and as the 25th season of the Bachelor returns on January 4, he is opening up more about this new role for him.
The 29-year old real estate broker has a lot on his shoulders being the first black Bachelor in the history of the show. He opened up to fans about what this means for him.
‘The Bachelor’ Spoilers: The Confessionals Begin
In the spoilers for the new season of the Bachelor, we will see a lot of emotions. Matt speaks out in a confessional, “It’s more excitement, I just want to know that I’m everything they’re hoping I am.” We will also see one of the contestant talking to Matt.
She tells him, “I just couldn’t imagine myself doing this journey and this experience if it was any other person. It’s important to me to see diverse love stories because it’s not something I saw so much growing up as a child.”
‘The Bachelor’ Spoilers: Matt James is Anxious About Responsibilities
Matt shares with his fans, “I feel a load of responsibility. But in that, I feel like my experience isn’t everyone’s experience. I can only go and speak on things that I’ve experienced and live out my truths and do the best I can to represent who I am and how I was raised.
Being a person of color, it’s important to me that someone knows what that’s like and embraces it, because that was part of who I am and it’s going to be a part of our relationship.”
When the last season of the Bachelorette was to begin filming, Matt was selected to be on the season with Clare Crawley. When the pandemic hit, some things had to be pushed back with the filming because of quarantines.
This caused Matt to have his schedule changed a bit. He is excited about being the lead on the Bachelor and we have already heard that this season will be dramatic and filled with tears.
Rob Mills with ABC told fans, “Matt is not on this season of the Bachelorette, and the reason why we take leads from previous seasons is because you know them so well and we can predict which person he might like or not. But we just didn’t know at all, so it was really fun to watch him interact with everyone.”
