The anniversary of the coronation of King Charles is on Monday, May 6th, as it will mark his first year as monarch. It was the first coronation in 70 years, as prior to her death, Queen Elizabeth reigned those 70 years. The accession of a new monarch is celebrated with the coronation.
The Official Crowning of Charles As King
More than 2,000 people attended the royal event at Westminster Abbey on the historic date. The ceremony was surrounded by pomp and circumstance. The event encompassed the official crowing of Charles and Camilla as King and Queen. Their elegant robes were adorned with charming embroidery and carefully created from perfect needlework.
Charles was crowned with St. Edward’s crown, which Queen Elizabeth wore at her 1953 coronation.
“Stand firm and hold fast from henceforth this seat of royal dignity, which is yours by the authority of Almighty God. May that same God, whose throne endures forever, establish your throne in righteousness, that it may stand fast for evermore,”
Archbishop Canterbury proclaimed as he put the crown on the new King’s head.
The joy of the ceremony was highlighted by the bond between Charles and the Commonwealth. Charles connected with his audience and royal fans, hanging on to his every word. He said that he and his wife would,
“Rededicate our lives to serving the people of the United Kingdom, the realms, and the Commonwealth.”
Several notable celebrities and others were in attendance: Katy Perry, Lionel Ritchie, Emma Thompson, Judi Dench, and Jill Biden all came to honor this moment in time.
Harry And William Sat Separately At The Event
Of course, Prince Harry and Prince William sat separately, which was expected considering his book, “Spare,” which illustrated a very negative picture of William, whom Harry said he got into an altercation with. He allegedly pushed Harry into the dog bowl, and he had cuts all over his body.
The royal family even appeared on the balcony after the King was crowned, minus Harry and Charles’ disgraced brother, Prince Andrew. The rift between Charles and Harry has been as devastating for the King as it has been challenging. That being said, he keeps a clear head and hasn’t allowed it to affect his royal duties.
Charles had a triumphant first year as King, as the monarchy has united countries and brought people together. The King has shown his devotion to service, and the UK has enormously benefitted from his reign. He has taken a stand on humanitarian issues.
King Charles has also helped Prime Minister Rishi Sunak rebuild his foreign ties. He has done a lot of good for conservational and environmental issues. Of course, he has opened up discussion about cancer by sharing his own diagnosis. ‘
The Monarch Raised Public Awareness Of Cancer
Charles has shown the world that just because you are being treated for or recovering from cancer doesn’t mean you have to stop working and being productive. He’s helped the public to understand cancer and its emotional impact better.
He has slimmed down the monarchy to focus on the key royal family members like Prince William, Princess Catherine, Princess Anne, and Prince Edward.
The king’s diary is filled with several incredible upcoming engagements and events, such as a visit to Normandy for the 80th centenary of the D-day landings and a state visit from the emperor and empress from Japan.
At the coronation, William became first in line to the throne, as he pledged his allegiance to Charles in a ceremony known as “The Homage of the Royal Blood.”
William kneeled before his father, gently placed his hands into Charles’s hands, and vowed to God and the King that he would honor Charles. It was an unforgettable event.
