Suzanne Somers, who was best known for her role as Chrissy Snow on the 1970 sitcom Three’s Company, passed away peacefully in her home this morning after a long battle with breast cancer.
Suzanne would have been 77 tomorrow. She died surrounded by her loving family in her California home. Her husband, Alan Hamel, gifted her an early birthday present today.
She received a handwritten love poem wrapped in her favorite flowers: lovely pink peonies. Suzanne battled skin cancer in her 30s and began her fight with breast cancer in her 50s.
Sadly, Suzanne’s breast cancer had returned about three months ago. She is survived by her husband and her son, Bruce.
She was also a stepmother to Stephen and Leslie Hamel from Alan’s first marriage and also had six grandchildren.

On October 16, 1946, Suzanne was born in San Bruno, California, to her mother, Marion Elizabeth, and her father, Francis Mahony.
Suzanne was one of four children. Her father was a gardener, and her mother was a medical secretary. She grew up with an abusive and alcoholic father and lived in constant turmoil.
Suzanne was diagnosed with dyslexia when she was young and struggled academically. However, she was a gifted and memorable theater student.
She went to Capuchino High School and was a cheerleader. Suzanne earned a music scholarship to college but became pregnant by a man named Bruce Somers, and her son Bruce was born in November 1965.
She divorced her husband in 1965 and became a model to support her young son. In 1968, she secured a job as a prize model and met her future husband, Alan.
Suzanne Somers Got Her Big Break On Three’s Company
Suzanne had several minor roles before she landed the role of the stereotypical ditzy blond girl, Chrissy, on Three’s Company in 1977.
She played on the show with John Ritter and Joyce DeWitt. The show was about a man who was pretending to be gay so he could live with two women.
Three’s Company was on the air from 1977 and ended in 1984. Suzanne was only on the show until 1981.
Somers became a sex symbol and received much recognition for the popular character of Chrissy Snow.
She parted ways with the show when she had asked for a raise at the start of the fifth season, along with ten percent ownership of the show’s profits. They refused to accommodate her.
Suzanne also married Alan in 1977. In the 1980’s Somers became a Las Vegas performer. She came out with an autobiography in 1988. She also wrote quite a few self-help books on aging.
Suzanne was also the spokesperson for the Thighmaster exercise equipment in the 1990’s. In the early ’90s, she landed a role as Carol Foster Lambert on the sitcom “Step By Step.”
In 2012, Somers hosted her talk show, “The Suzanne Show.” It only aired for one season on the Lifetime network.
In 2015, Suzanne participated in Dancing with the Stars. She and her partner, Tony Dovolani, were eliminated during the fifth week and came in 9th place.
In 2000, she was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer. She received a lumpectomy to remove the cancer and radiation therapy.
Suzanne died peacefully in her sleep on October 15, 2023.
