Drew Barrymore appears to have angered the leading writers on her talk show due to her actions amidst the writers’ strike. Consequently, these writers are resigning and refusing to participate when the show recommences following the strike.
Three co-head writers, who were part of “The Drew Barrymore Show” before the strike, have purportedly rejected offers to return and work for her syndicated daytime program. This has forced the production team into a frantic search for new writers.
The writers who have chosen to distance themselves from Drew are Chelsea White, Cristina Kinon, and Liz Koe, and they have been integral to the show since its inception.
Drew Barrymore Has Burned The Bridge With Writers, They WILL NOT Be Returning For The Show
During the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, these writers were conspicuous while picketing outside CBS’s New York City office on several occasions.
When Drew announced her premature decision to revive her show, even before the strike had concluded, some of these writers openly voiced their disappointment with their boss, echoing the widespread backlash that Drew encountered.
While Drew ultimately reversed her course and postponed her talk show’s return to the air, following the lead of several other hosts, it is clear that her relationship with her head writers suffered damage. Shortly thereafter, the AMPTP and WGA reached an agreement, allowing the picketing writers to resume their work.
Now, with Drew missing her key writers, it remains uncertain whether this will impact her officially announced return date, set for October 16. Their departure has undeniably thrown a wrench into the show’s plans.
