Let’s just say that it’s not his day, his week, his month or even his year for that matter. George Floyd’s family is suing Kanye West for his claims he died from drug abuse. As many fans remember, Floyd was murdered by a police officer during an arrest in 2020.
Hennepin county chief medical examiner Dr Andrew Baker would later confirm and testify Floyd’s cause of death was “cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement’s subdual, restraint and neck compression” – the stopping of his heart and lungs that prevented him from breathing. Here’s what you need to know.
George Floyd’s Family Is Suing Kanye West For This Reason
Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty of three murder and manslaughter charges and is currently serving two prison sentences of more than 22 years for Floyd’s death. Ye went on the Drink Champs podcast on Saturday, however, and alleged Floyd died from a fentanyl overdose. In the same interview, which has since been taken down from YouTube, he also made antisemitic comments.
Kanye’s recent activity, which has also included white supremacist messaging, has drawn widespread criticism. The mother of George Floyd’s daughter, Roxie Washington, is suing the rapper for $250 million, The Guardian reports, following his comments.
Just last week, Kanye posted screen shots on Instagram of a conversation with rapper Diddy, who called out West over the T-shirt and its message. “Ima use you as an example to show the Jewish people that told you to call me that no one can threaten or influence me. I told you this was war. Now gone get you some business,” he wrote. The posts have since been deleted from the platform but images can still be found online.
He then said on Twitter that he would target Jewish people in a post that has been blocked by the platform for violating its rules. The American Jewish Committee (AJC) hit out at West for having “fomented hatred of Jews.”
No stranger to controversy, West, who has been open about his struggles with bipolar disorder, was previously banned from posting on Instagram for 24 hours in March.
