Kanye West has suffered another setback with the news that fashion brand Balenciaga has cut ties with him.
Balenciaga Cuts Ties With Kanye West
The French fashion company confirmed that they would no longer be associating with the rapper in the aftermath of his ‘White Lives Matter’ tops and the subsequent fall out from his ‘def con 3’ comments about Jewish people.
And given that Kanye had controversially claimed in an interview with Piers Morgan that he initially was ‘absolutely not’ sorry over his comments, the fashion company has been forced to respond.
An official statement on behalf of the company said: “Balenciaga has no longer any relationship nor any plans for future projects related to this artist.”
This is a massive blow for Kanye, as the creative director of the company, Demna Gvasalia, has been a long-time advocate for Kanye. This has been seen as the pair have had a significant amount of collaborations on the Yeezy Gap Balenciaga collections.
This move then follows the termination of Kanye’s other deal with ‘Gap’ just last month, as he was not happy with the company. And given that Kanye’s deal with Adidas runs out in 2026, coupled with the fact that it is under review, the rapper could be cancelled by all the major players.
The response on social media was very clear. A significant proportion of the fanbase felt that Kanye had to watch his moves going forward. Not only that, but this was not a surprise, especially since Balenciaga had ties with his ex Kim Kardashian.
After all, they were responsible for creating her 2021 Met Gala look. One person wrote: “Makes sense. Isn’t the director there close with Kim? Kanye needs to watch his mouth. It’s costing him.”
