PR Expert Believes Kim Kardashian Will Use Family’s Christmas Eve Party To Deflect Attention From Balenciaga Backlash
In a post on her Instagram page, the reality TV star, 42, expressed her disgust at the fashion label’s recent ad campaign, which featured extremely offensive BDSM images.
Balenciaga came under fire for releasing ads featuring children holding teddy bear bags accessorised with bondage gear, while Kim allegedly did not speak out against it soon enough. The campaign also referenced a ruling from the Supreme Court that upheld a law against child sexual abuse images.
While the Kardashian did state that she would be re-evaluating her position with the brand moving forward, there has been a significant amount of damage done to her reputation. With that being said, it is about saving face now.
According to The Mirror, Emily Bergh, a celebrity publicity expert at R Public Relations Firm, said the following: “The Kardashian-Jenners are masters at deflection. Given all that is going on with Balenciaga right now, it seems appropriate timing for a nice deflection, the Christmas Eve party.”
Despite this being the case, sources have stressed that the Kardashian has responded to her initial statement with some action. It is alleged that she has turned down the opportunity to work on their next campaign.
Although it is not clear if this is a one-off decision, it shows that the Kardashian is responding to public opinion, even if it means she may work with the brand once the controversy dies down somewhat. The fans on social media were heavily critical of the Kardashian.
A significant proportion were of the view that she was not doing enough to condemn the company. One person wrote: “Kim is so tone deaf, she thinks she can make some silly statement about balenciaga and everyone is just going to forget about it and move on.”
