Selena Gomez broke down over her struggle with lupus amid her new documentary, ‘My Mind & Me.’
Selena Gomez Breaks Down In Tears Over Her Struggle With Lupus-‘That’s What Drives Me Into Depression’
Lupus is a condition that affects the joints which can result in skin rashes and tiredness. And given that she is in a profession where she is required to be in front of a crowd by virtue of being a performer, things started to become quite overwhelming for her in 2020.
This was because the pain exacerbated to the point where it was no longer tolerable. In the documentary, she said: “[The pain is] everywhere. Now it just hurts. Like, in the morning when I wake up, I immediately start crying because it hurts, everything.
“I think my past and my mistakes, that’s what drives me into depression.” And as part of that process, Selena had gotten a call from her doctor who explained that the pain was a result of her lupus and myositis combining.
Myositis is a condition where there is a significant inflammation and degeneration of the tissue which can impact the way the body operates. As a result, Selena had to use the drug Rituxan which was accompanied by side effects that she would rather have done without.
Her following comments confirmed as much: “I just always feel better when I have answers, but the Rituxan was really hard to do last time. It’s about four hours, five hours. It’s really hard on your system at first, but it’s OK.”
The fans on social media were equally moved by Selena’s revelations. And in the process of doing so, people began to resonate with her story since she had shown herself to be vulnerable in front of the cameras.
One person wrote: “Watching the Selena Gomez documentary why am I abt to break down omg #MyMindAndMe.” It is fair to say that Selena has been through a lot of late, which is why her bravery should be commended.
