Outrage As Churchgoers In ‘Tears’ After Trinity College Church Suggests Jesus Christ May Have Been Transgender

People leaving a sermon at Trinity College Church were said to have been in tears after the Dean, Dr Michael Banner, defended the claim that Jesus may have been transgender.

Outrage As Churchgoers In ‘Tears’ After Church Suggests Jesus May Have Been Transgender

Banner supported junior research fellow Joshua Heath, who alleged that the crucifixion showing a side wound from a painting was comparable to a vagina. In his comments, Heath alleged: “In Christ’s simultaneously masculine and feminine body in these works, if the body of Christ as these works suggest the body of all bodies, then his body is also the trans body.”

According to The Daily Telegraph, Heath illustrated his point using Jean Malouel’s 14th-century painting Pietà with the Holy Trinity, which is on display at the Louvre. Maccheroni’s 1990 work Christs was also shown during the sermon, as was Bonne of Luxembourg’s Prayer Book.

That naturally did not sit very well with the churchgoers for the following reasons. First of all, there was an element of ardent Christians who prided themselves on their conservative values.

Secondly, others noted that the children present appeared to be visibly uncomfortable and that the adults themselves felt unwelcome in the church. That is why the churchgoers were left shaken.

One such attendee stated the following: “I left the service in tears. You offered to speak with me afterwards, but I was too distressed. I am contemptuous of the idea that by cutting a hole in a man, through which he can be penetrated, he can become a woman.”

The response on social media was equally one of condemnation. A significant proportion of observers were outraged, and by the looks of it, the comments were very brutal indeed. One person wrote: “This disgusts me. Disrespect for Jesus is unacceptable.”

There has clearly been a lot of damage done to those attending the church, which will only exacerbate unless there is dialogue with those who have become disenfranchised.
