A songwriter who believes his 2001 tune was stolen and utilized in “Frozen 2” is suing Disney and two-time EGOT winner Robert Lopez. He apparently reached this decision while watching the movie with his child.
Legal documents state that musician Daniel Grigson first heard the song “Some Things Never Change” while watching “Frozen 2” in theaters at the end of November 2019. He claims he was so taken aback by the song’s performance that he immediately stood up.
Disney Being Sued Over ‘Frozen 2’ Song By Man Claiming They Stole It From Him
According to the documents, Grigson was taken aback by the song’s beat, rhythm, feel, concept, and words since he believes it is almost EXACTLY LIKE his song, “That Girl,” from many years ago. Grigson states that when he was standing in the cinema, his eyes were wide open; nevertheless, after he had gone back down and put his head in his hands, he alleges that his daughter, who is 11 years old, reached up to him and said, “Dad, Disney took your song.”
Grigson claims that in order to analyze the two songs, he employed an analyst. The analyst’s findings revealed that not only do the songs sound alike, but they are also similar on a technical level. He now demands that Disney and Lopez pay back any money they made from the song in addition to stopping the firm from using the music.
After listening to the two songs, there are similarities but I’m not sure he has enough of a case to take it to Disney, especially with their high-priced lawyers. As of now, the comments on Grigson’s song have been disabled, so it’s hard to see what others are thinking of the situation. I imagine there will be a settlement or something done outside of court, as Disney, guilty or not won’t want this hovering around them.
What do you think? Do you think they are similar enough to take to court and what will happen? Let us know in the comments below.
