Last year, it was said that Shane Dawson had a TikTok account but did not upload because he didn’t really get it and didn’t really care to. However now that his new documentary has been released we’ve been seeing an uptick in TikTok uploads from the once cancelled YouTube creator and we’re wondering since Jeffree Star raved about it – did he manage to convince Shane Dawson that TikTok is the new way to go?
Will Shane migrate over to tiktok eventually and have all of his content over there? Thing is, the long form content would definitely have to stay on YouTube simply because TikTok is not set up to handle anything longer than 10 minutes currently (and God help you if you can get those fabled 10 minute uploads), but a lot of new content creators are making do with videos that are 3 minutes or less and they’re getting tons of views.
Did Jeffree Star convince Shane Dawson to start using TikTok?
Sure, a lot of TikTok is geared toward singing and dancing and is definitely skewed to a much younger audience. However, there are also how to videos, and storytime videos, they’re just a lot more condensed than your average YouTube video and doesn’t allow for advertising space within the video itself, something which a lot of creators actually benefit from because their content isn’t interrupted by yet another annoying ad.
No they’re not making money from it but TikTok creators seem to monetize themselves by way of Patreon and other ways that don’t involve ads on the app. (There are ads on the app but they are sandwiched between videos.)
Shane has been uploading videos mostly to do with his new documentary series and his podcast as of late, but the fact of the matter is, he’s uploading and that means that there is a new place to find Shane Dawson content aside from IG Lives (a place that some of us won’t touch with a 10 foot pole) and that you can actually go back and watch them, like you would in the early days of YouTube, you know, if you missed an upload or something. We’ll see if he sticks around on the app past promoting this new series. Stay tuned!!!
