British Royal News says that James Middleton is honoring Queen Elizabeth in the sweetest way. The younger brother of Kate Middleton, aka Princess of Wales, introduced his social media followers to a golden retriever puppy named Bertie and how he ties into paying tribute to the queen. Here’s what you need to know.
James took to his Instagram account to announce the news. “This is Bertie, named after Queen Elizabeth’s father, Albert,” Middleton wrote alongside photos of himself and the pup. He then explains that his dog Mabel delivered a healthy litter of 8 babies, Bertie being one of them, so he decided to “donate a puppy to become a future assistance dog” with Guide Dogs UK.

“I was so proud to hand him [Bertie] to this incredible charity, and will also be endeavoring to raise the £60 000 required to support Bertie throughout his training until retirement,” the founder of dog wellness company Ella & Co added.
In an interview with Hello! Magazine, Middleton shared more about Bertie and the journey he is about to embark on.
“In light of recent events, I wanted a name that is a touching tribute to the late queen,” he told the magazine. “It was incredible that the queen dedicated her life to service, and in many ways, Bertie the dog will be dedicating his life to service too.”
Earlier in the week, photos of Queen Elizabeth’s were released. Her Majesty’s name has been inscribed alongside her mother’s, father’s and husband’s on the stone, in the King George VI Memorial Chapel in St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, where the late monarch was buried. A new black stone slab has been set into the floor, replacing the old stone that had the names George VI and Elizabeth inscribed in gold lettering. The fresh stone now contains, in list form, “George VI 1895-1952” and “Elizabeth 1900-2002” followed by a metal Garter Star, and then “Elizabeth II 1926-2022” and “Philip 1921-2021.”
All four royals were members of the Order of the Garter, which has St George’s Chapel as its spiritual home. Made of hand-carved Belgian black marble with brass letter inlays, the design was made to match the previous ledger stone. Floral tributes and wreaths are also shown surrounding the stone in the picture.
