The premiere took place on Thursday, 19th May 2022. The anticipation for the movie was overwhelming, and it showed as the film broke box-office records. And as part of that process, Miles was on hand alongside Tom Cruise to meet the royals.
Despite having had pointers over how he should act, it seems that Miles broke protocol when he came face-to-face with William and Kate. In an interview on the “Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon,’ he said: “I kind of had a sheet to prep to make sure I didn’t mess it up.
“I think right off the bat, I messed up. You’re not supposed to extend your hand right off the bat unless they do. But I felt the vibe, so I’m like, ‘I’m going in, I’m going in.’” Nevertheless, the meeting seemed to go well.
In the pictures here, we can see Miles shaking William’s hand, while he speaks to Kate as she has a massive smile on her face. And one of the reasons why Miles had broken out of character was due to how welcoming the Prince and Princess of Wales had been. That left him with a very positive impression indeed.
His following comments confirmed as much: “And to their credit, they were very disarming and this and that. I’m honestly lost in Prince William’s – in his eyes. I mean, blue as the bluest ocean, Jimmy. Kate was beautiful and cordial and holds herself so well and regal.”
The fans on social media felt the whole thing was a bit overboard. A certain subset of people could not understand why there had to be royal protocol at such an event. One person wrote: “Why do we need to follow royal protocol?!”
