Lena Dunham has been slammed after controversially claiming that she would want her coffin paraded through a New York City Pride parade.
Lena Dunham SLAMMED After Claiming She Wants Her Coffin ‘Driven Through The NYC Parade’
The actress may not be a member of the LQBTQIA+ community, but she has shown her support throughout the years. This has primarily been on the basis that her sister, Grace, decided to come out in 2014.
And ever since that moment, she has been an advocate of such rights. Therefore, It was not clear if her following comments were made in jest, or if it was a freudian slip. But in any event, it did generate a lot of attention.
In her comments, Lena said: “I want my casket to be driven through the NYC pride parade with a plaque that reads ‘she wasn’t for everyone, but she *was* for us. Who can arrange?”
This generated a lot of criticism for the following reasons. First of all, Lena’s comments were interpreted as her mocking the movement. After all, she has never said anything similar about other such movements.
Secondly, others argued that her comments meant that the rights of those who support pride were taken away, as it became about Lena. Lastly, in any event, others could not comprehend why she would decide to make the comments, knowing that it could generate controversy. And in doing so, it did come across as a publicity stunt.
It is not surprising, then, that the fans on social media had a lot to say about the matter. A significant proportion of the comments were very derogatory towards Lena. One person wrote: “Maybe they should drive your casket around in a bus, like the one you threw LGBTQIA sex workers under.”
While another person stated: “I wouldn’t expect anything better from you.” It is fair to say that this was not Lena’s finest moment and perhaps she should consider her comments more carefully. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
