Tampa Bay Bucs QB Tom Brady Defends Mike Evans Amidst 1 Game Suspension For Fighting: “That’s Ridiculous”

Tom Brady is displeased with the NFL once more; this time, the Buccaneers quarterback claimed his star receiver, Mike Evans, should not have been suspended for fighting on Sunday. Brady spoke on the Let’s Go podcast saying, “I don’t think it deserved any type of suspension. I think that’s ridiculous.”

For his part in a fight with Marshon Lattimore during the Sunday game between Tampa Bay and New Orleans, Evans was given a one-game suspension.

Running onto the field to defend Brady, Evans knocked Lattimore to the ground, setting off a full-scale brawl. The league claimed the 29-year-old wideout’s actions broke the rules against unnecessary roughness and unsportsmanlike conduct, and on Monday it announced it was suspending him for an additional game.

Brady spoke candidly about the incident on his pod, criticizing the league’s decision while expressing support for Evans’ actions. Brady sounded proud of Evan’s actions saying, “In the end, I appreciate Mike having my back. I know he’ll learn from it. And he knows that we all have his back.”

Brady admitted some responsibility for the altercation, claiming that nothing would have happened if he hadn’t run down the field to contest the call. The Bucs eventually defeated N.O. 20-10 to win the game. If Evans doesn’t succeed in his appeal, they’ll have to play without him this Sunday when they play the Packers in Tampa.

Evans and Lattimore have had a storied history of getting into it dating back to 2017 when Evans defended then-quarterback Jameis Winston and shoved Lattimore down from the back. He was ejected from the game. Their feud hasn’t stopped either, as in nearly every game they play, they are at each other’s throats.
