Serena Williams has not ruled out the possibility of coming out of retirement from tennis.Â
Serena Williams Has Not Ruled Out A Return To Tennis-‘I Definitely Can Still Come Back’
The star is arguably one of the greatest players of all time with nothing else to prove in the game. And given that she is currently 40-years-old, couple with the fact that she is a mother to a daughter, the time seemed right for her to walk away as she did so following the US Open.Â
With 23 Grand Slams to her name, the last one being at the 2017 Australian Open, she was not in the mix for the biggest prizes anymore. With that being said, Serena was ready to move on to the next phase of her life.
In her comments, she said: “I just needed to stop. I always said I wanted to stop when I’m playing really good tennis and winning and beating good players. For me, it’s really about things I want to do spiritually and spending time with my daughter and family.”
Having said that, though, Serena has left the door open for a return. This would most likely depend on the level of competition that is on offer, coupled with the fact if she felt rejuvenated to make a comeback. In addition, it is no secret that sports stars have struggled to cope with retirement and Serena would be no exception to that.
One just has to look at NFL star Tom Brady, who is still carrying on at the age of 45, even if that is putting a strain on his marriage with Gisele Bündchen. She added: “I feel like if I want to come back, I definitely can still come back.”
The fans on social media did not have a lot of interest to see Serena making a return. And in the process of doing so, they bashed her. One person wrote: “You still have penis envy, Serena? Stay retired…Tennis doesn’t need you.”
