Outrage As BBC Reporter Mistakenly Announces Queen Elizabeth’s Death

It looks like someone might have gotten a little ahead of themselves here. There are new reports that say a BBC reporter mistakenly announced Queen Elizabeth’s death on Twitter. As of press time, the entire royal family – which includes Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry – are on their way to Balmoral Castle in Scotland to be by the queen’s side. Here’s what you need to know.

According to reports, the BBC changed its online logo from red to black, and its anchors donned black apparel Thursday as the family of Queen Elizabeth II gathered by her bedside in Scotland amid reports of her failing health. This is all part of Operation London Bridge, which is the official plan for the queen’s death, the change in color scheme portended the worst.

Yet, BBC journalist Yalda Hakim on Thursday afternoon saying that the queen had died, attributing the news to a Buckingham Palace announcement, sparked panic in newsrooms across the world. She quickly deleted the tweet.

“I tweeted that there had been an announcement about the death of the Queen,” Hakim wrote in a subsequent tweet. “This was incorrect, there has been no announcement, and so I have deleted the tweet. I apologize.”

Many royal fans and critics alike commented on the matter with, “Always check the blue tick on the major news platforms or wait until it’s been officially announced by true sources. There’s a lot of scamming pages especially today,” along with, “How can you tweet there has been an announcement when there has been no announcement? Should be ashamed.”

Another critic wrote, “She’s clearly dead but you jumped the gun. There’s fixed protocol that is to take place once she passes away and they include how and when the news of her passing will be broken.”
