Will Smith is eyeing up a return to acting with reports about a new project with Paramount Pictures.Â
Is Will Smith Coming Back To Acting?
According to reports, the actor is being considered by film creator Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and director Akiva Goldsman for their project entitled ‘Brilliance.’ This would be a brave decision, as it is not clear how Will is going to be received.
After all, his 2022 Oscar slapgate incident did mar his reputation. His act of slapping comedian Chris Rock shocked the globe, as it was out of character since he did win the ‘Best Actor Award’ for his role in ‘King Richard,’ even if he did not take Chris’ joke well.Â
And yet, this should not come as a surprise since Akiva has worked with Smith on numerous occasions. They have worked together on projects such as I, Robot (2004), I Am Legend (2007) and Hancock (2008). That would go some way to making Smith’s return a hit since they know each other well.Â
Nevertheless, it is important to bear in mind the following points. First of all, despite Will apologising to Chris publicly, the comedian has not actually responded to him. As such, there is always going to some of his critics that will hold this against Smith.
Secondly, there is no guarantee that Will takes up the potential role. Who is to say that his mental health is in a good place following his outburst. The fans on social media had a mixed response to this.
While a certain subset of people recognised that Will’s conduct had been deplorable, others felt that this should not be used against him at all. After all, a time had to come where people let this go.
One person wrote: “He’s a great actor and Inlook forward to seeing his future projects! Was he wrong to slap? Hell ya but it shouldn’t ruin his career.” So there you have it folks. What did you think about this?
