Melanie Lynskey, best known for being the star of ‘Yellowjackets,’ opened up about being body shamed in the early parts of her career.Â
‘Yellowjackets’ Star Melanie Lynskey Recalls Being Body Shamed
The star admitted that she first experienced this when she was filming for “Coyote Ugly.” During the course of this comedy, Melanie happened to play the character of Gloria.
And given that Melanie was already pushing herself to the extreme when it came to her weight, the actress was left shaken when the comments surrounding her appearance were not satisfactory.
In her comments, she said: “[They were] putting a lot of Spanx on me in wardrobe fittings and being very disappointed when they saw me. The costume designer being like, ‘Nobody told me there would be girls like you.”
And as Melanie was in her 20s at the time, she started to become overwhelmed by the whole experience. After all, she wanted to give her all when it came to breaking into the acting industry. That ended up creating a toxic environment. Luckily, for her though, the person that was responsible for such a thing ended up leaving.
And when a new costume designer was brought in, Melanie felt a whole lot better. Her following comments confirmed as much: “The costume designer who initially worked on ‘Coyote Ugly’ left for some reason, & a lovely kind woman named Marlene Stewart took over and she was AWESOME.
“The first person was mean.” Nevertheless, this was still a problem that Melanie encountered afterwards. And it emerged during her time on ‘Yellowjackets’ too.
Although Melanie did not be so frank over the exact circumstances about it, she did admit that someone from the crew suggested that perhaps she could benefit from a personal trainer.
She stated: “They were asking me, ‘What do you plan to do? I’m sure the producers will get you a trainer. They’d love to help you with this.” As long as Melanie is happy with herself, then that is the most important thing.
