Oscar winner Lee Grant opened up on her struggles with older men pursuing her when she was just a teenager.Â
Oscar Winner Lee Grant Recalls Older Men ‘Crazily Hitting’ On Her When She Was Just 15
Lee certainly has some acting pedigree when we look at her line of work. She managed to grab her first Oscar nomination for the film ‘Detective Story.’ Thereafter, things only got better as the star ended up winning an Oscar for her movie, ‘Shampoo.’Â
But before that dream became a success, she did have to navigate quite a few hurdles which left her shocked to say the least. In an interview with Page Six magazine, she said: “When I was an adolescent, I had one man after another crazily hitting on me.
“Showing up at restaurants, they were crazy. You know when you’re 15, 16, 17, when you’re just so delicious and so on the edge, that these guys — and they’re older guys — they’re falling over themselves.”
Nevertheless, this is something that she did not have to deal with in the Hollywood industry. This is a major surprise, as the industry has often been criticised over the fact that young women get taken advantage of. And yet the reason for this may have been due to the fact that she had been blacklisted for 12 years which started in 1952.Â
This was on the grounds that her husband at the time (Arnold Manoff) was a Communist. Therefore, Lee was not able to get any work in the industry during that time. But in any event, she did manage to avoid any trouble from Hollywood.
Her following comments confirmed as much: “I was never in contact with a producer who hit on me in an uncomfortable way, I never had that experience. Maybe because I wasn’t a kid.”
Lee’s story showed just how far she managed to come, as not every actress is able to overcome those obstacles, let alone be an Oscar winner. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this?
