Tim Allen has given his take on the Toy Story spin-off entitled ‘Lightyear.’
Tim Allen Shades Disney’s Toy Story Spin-Off ‘Lightyear’-‘There’s really no ‘Toy Story’ Buzz Without Woody’
Lightyear was an attempt to tell the origin story of Buzz Lightyear, but in doing so, the movie has flopped at the box office according to the revenue numbers. With that being said, Tim had a lot to say about a character who he had played for so long.
But when it came to giving his opinion on the movie, he was far from impressed. In an interview with Extra, he said: “This is a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies. There’s really no ‘Toy Story’ Buzz without Woody. It just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy.”
Nevertheless, Tim’s replacement in the movie (Chris Evans) has made it clear that he was influenced by how Tim took his approach to the character. Although the storyline may have flattered to deceive, Chris did ensure that he incorporated the spirit that Tim left in the character.
And yet, the film had to distinguish itself from its predecessors. After all, failure to do so would have drawn immediate comparisons with the originals.
In some prior comments, Chris remarked: “The character in this movie is the human version that the toy is based off of, so it makes sense to have a little bit of overlap, luckily for me. What Tim Allen did was pretty untouchable.”
The fans on social media were not surprised by Tim’s comments. People were ultimately of the view that this was a novel approach to the Toy Story movies. And by focusing on stand-alone projects, it has taken away from the original character that Tim had made his own.
One person wrote: “I really don’t think he’d want a thing to do with it.” Each movie has to be judged on its own merits, but for Tim, it is quite clear where he stands. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
