There are new reports that say Hollywood star Kevin Spacey has pleaded not guilty to four charges of sexual assault and one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent in charges dating back 17 years. The 62-year-old had already indicated he “strenuously denies” the allegations of three men who are now in their 30s and 40s. Here’s what you need to know.
According to reports, Spacey appeared in Court One of the Old Bailey under his full name of Kevin Spacey Fowler for a plea and case management hearing before Justice Wall. The actor is on unconditional bail and attended the central London court in person rather than by videolink. The alleged offenses are said to have taken place in London and Gloucestershire between 2005 and 2013.

Spacey, who won Academy Awards for the films Usual Suspects and American Beauty in the 1990s, has said he is willing to defend himself in Britain and is confident any trial will prove his innocence. Once one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, Mr Spacey has largely disappeared from public view since being accused of sexual misconduct five years ago.
In November 2017, London’s Old Vic theater said it had received 20 separate allegations of inappropriate conduct by Mr Spacey from 20 men who came into contact with him at the theater, or in connection with it, between 1995 and 2013. He was dropped from the TV show House of Cards and removed from the film All the Money in the World after the accusations of sexual misconduct came to light.
Spacey’s lawyer Patrick Gibbs QC said his client “strenuously denies any and all criminality in this case.” Gibbs said Mr Spacey had returned to the UK “to establish his innocence” and “proceed with his life.”
So far Spacey himself has not made any public comments about the case.
