Johnny Depp will reportedly star in his first film since his legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard. Here’s what you need to know.

According to Bloomberg, the film La Favourite will stream on Netflix France after it is screened in cinemas. The publication further reports that the streaming service does not have the rights to stream the film outside France. Variety further reports that it is not a Netflix original.

The 59-year-old will play French king, Louis XV and be directed by French filmmaker, Maiwenn, who will also star in the film as Jeanne du Barry, a countess who was the king’s last mistress. Filming is set to take place in the summer and includes locations such as the Versailles Palace.

This will be Depp’s first film since the 2020 film Minamata, which was released a year later due to his legal troubles. In June, Depp largely won a defamation suit against Heard. A jury found Heard defamed the Pirates of the Caribbean star and awarded him $10.35 million in damages. The jury also determined that Heard was defamed, awarding her $2 million.

Soon after Johnny won his case, he also made his debut on TikTok with a video thanking his fans for their support. A 30-second video, which he reposted on Instagram, showed highlights from his run of live concerts with musician Jeff Beck and clips of fans showing their support with banners and flags. Set to the reggae song Stranger by Love Joys, the video also showed Depp preparing a set list for his gigs alongside Beck and working on a typewriter.

Johnny wrote: “To all of my most treasured, loyal and unwavering supporters. We’ve been everywhere together, we have seen everything together. We have walked the same road together. We did the right thing together, all because you cared. And now, we will all move forward together.”

He added, “You are, as always, my employers and once again I am whittled down to no way to say thank you, other than just by saying thank you. So, thank you. My love & respect, JD.”
