Camilla Parker Bowles has proclaimed she is a “confirmed oldie” as she celebrated her 75th birthday with guests including Jeremy Irons and British actress Joanna Lumley. Actors, musicians and writers joined her for a champagne reception and sea bass lunch at the National Liberal Club, Whitehall. Here’s what you need to know.
Camilla, who appeared in good spirits as she cracked jokes about toilet paper, wanted her party to celebrate the achievements of those aged over 70. “You sweetly thought you were here because of who you are,” the broadcaster Gyles Brandreth joked with guests. “You’re actually here because of how old you are.”

The afternoon began with the duchess greeting arrivals in the club’s foyer before heading up to the terrace, which overlooks Whitehall Gardens. Members of the public passed by below, unaware that the chef Rick Stein, former archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, and Twiggy were just a few feet away.
The birthday comes during a period of change for the monarchy, with the future queen consort speaking in the ITV documentary about “exciting new prospects” ahead as her position in the royal family takes on greater prominence. The duchess is the former royal mistress who will now stand shoulder to shoulder as queen with Charles when he becomes king. Camilla’s public image has been transformed after she was cast as the “third person” in the Prince and Princess of Wales’s marriage, to become a campaigning member of the monarchy prepared to serve the nation.
Camilla Parker Bowles also enjoyed a birthday dinner with her closest family members on Sunday, which included Prince Charles and her two children, Tom Parker Bowles and Laura Lopes. It is unknown whether or not Prince William and Kate Middleton attended the dinner. However, it’s been said that Camilla actually has a good relationship with both of them.
