Lizzette Martinez, who happened to be a victim of R Kelly’s sex crimes, has spoken out on reports that the disgraced music star may not get a life sentence.
Victim Of Sex Criminal R Kelly Speaks Out Amid His Sentencing-‘Lock Him Up And Throw The Key Away’
Robert Sylvester Kelly was convicted in 2021, but his sentencing is set to be determined this month. As of now, the federal prosecutors have suggested that Kelly could get somewhere in the region of 25 years behind bars.
While that would take him to the age of 82 should he still be alive at that point, the very fact of the matter is that Lizzette was not going to have any of that. In fact, she suggested that nothing short of a life sentence would be enough to have proper justice.
In an interview with TMZ, she said: “He’s destroyed so many lives for so long… that I think 25 is too low… We deal with residual side effects, we have to live with this forever.”
Lizzette’s comments do hold some weight. After all, even if Kelly was given 25 years, we have seen it so many times in the past that after a period of ‘good behavior’ these sentences can be reduced.
Not only that, but if Kelly was given 25 years and managed to serve it in full, the fact of the matter is that he would be back into public society. And that is not going to go down well with those that had suffered at Kelly’s hands.
Lizzette added: “Lock him up and throw the key away, or put him under the jail forever… I mean I don’t think he’s ever going to stop doing what he does.” Despite the wrong that Kelly was convicted of, the responses on social media was mixed.
People recognised that he needed to be held accountable, but a certain subset felt that a life sentence was disproportionate. One person wrote: “Would you want your son get life for rape? I know what R. Kelly did is wrong. But come on… Life? Most murders doing less.”
