From the TLC hit show, My Feet Are Killing Me, Dr. Brad Schaeffer is ready to talk more about his struggles with his sexuality and what it is like to be out as a gay man. He has been out in his personal life for years and it did surprise a lot of his fans when he recently came out as gay publicly.
My Feet Are Killing Me: Brad Opens Up
Although he had been out in his personal life, Brad became very popular when he was on the show and he is now part of three podiatrists who are helping their patients to feel better and many times, walk again.
The show does nothing but focuses on him as a doctor and helping his patients. His personal life never really comes up on the show because it’s not about that. After being on the show for four seasons, there was never a reason for him to explain his personal life.
My Feet Are Killing Me: Dr. Brad Schaeffer Shares Stories of His Sexuality For The First Time
Of course, fans of the show did a lot of searching to find out more about his personal life and some of them were curious what his marital status was. During one interview with Ben on a radio show, he was asked about his love life and the disc jockey told him, “You must be crushing it with the ladies in New York.” He basically laughed and shrugged it off.
He was pretty nervous about coming out publicly to his fans and he felt pretty ashamed of his personal life. He didn’t know where to start when it came to giving away these intimate details of his love life. Just recently he has opened up to his fans though.
He told them, “I just finally felt like it was time to do something and say something. With the success of the show, it’s been going now for a bit. When you Google yourself, you look up the questions that people are asking. I don’t want the question out there. I don’t want any confusion out there. If I’m perpetuating that… I’m never secretive about what I do. I’m very out there, but I’m not draping myself in a rainbow flag toga and running around Fire Island.”
He talked about how he was always a good Christian and had to play the role when he was growing up. He told fans that he even tried to “pray the gay away. I didn’t necessarily have a moment in time when I knew I was gay. It was just a slow burn, where it just kept eating at me and churning.” Brad does have a partner, Sean and they are very happy with one another.
