Casting Director for Sharp Entertainment Brooklyn Bagwell says quite possibly! In an interview with Variety she recently said that the 90 day universe is looking to expand its stories, and trans and non-binary couples could definitely be on the list next. However, they said that ever since the Caleb Greenwood and Alina Kasha incident, their vetting process has had to evolve.
They said that the Zoom calls in which they vet people are very intense now, and they have a lexis-nexis database on everyone that they potentially cast, but, unfortunately, they did say that the process is not foolproof and they don’t always spot everything that needs to be spotted – gee, ya think?
’90 Day FiancĂ©’ Spoilers: Could 90 Day Cast A Trans Couple In The Future?
When asked if a criminal record was an automatic no, they said that it depended on the kind of charges a person had. Oh really?
They said that they obviously didn’t want someone with domestic violence charges (how did Geoffrey Paschel pass this vetting process again?) or child pornography charges (yeah TLC kinda learned its lesson there) but they did say that other more minor offenses, such as drug charges(!!), could definitely be a part of the couples’ story. Yeah, we’re all raising our eyebrows a bit at that statement but we’ll say they’re keeping an open mind about things at the very least.
When asked about who they thought was the most successful couple on the series they said that they thought it was Darcy Silva and Jesse Meester. …But those two didn’t even end up together!!!
In second place they ranked Colt Johnson and Larissa Lima as the most successful couple on the series, no… they didn’t wind up together at the end but they provided a lot of content for the series and in the end… that’s what matters. Content. Got it.
Why is this a show centered around relationships again? Couldn’t we just put them on teams and have them grow their own brands via social media and that would accomplish the same thing without the messy marriage thing, wouldn’t it? I guess that wouldn’t be juicy enough, but for those of us thinking that 90 day is about a couple ending up together and beating the odds… well… nope not really!
We hope if there is a trans or non-binary couple that comes on the show, that they do end up completing their journey together. It would be interesting if at least one couple ended up standing the test of time, why not one of those? Stay tuned!!!
