It’s the final lap, you guys. The jury has been sent out in the defamation lawsuit brought by Johnny Depp against his ex-wife Amber Heard. Judge Penney Azcarate reminded jurors of their obligation to consider all the evidence before reaching their conclusions and forbade them from using outside sources for research purposes. According to new reports, closing remarks from both sides of the multimillion-dollar case urged jurors to think about other victims of domestic abuse. Lawyers for both actors also implored the other side to “take responsibility” for their actions. As many fans know, Depp is suing his ex-wife over a 2018 article she wrote in the Washington Post, which was titled: “I spoke up against sexual violence – and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.”

What’s more, Heard’s legal team highlighted the message that a verdict in Depp’s favor would send to others. Depp’s representatives said her claims were “an act of profound cruelty to true survivors.”
Just last week, Depp once again denied the “outlandish, outrageous” claims of abuse brought by his former partner Amber Heard as he returned to the stand in his defamation trial. The actor said he had told the truth and had “spoken up for what I have been carrying on my back reluctantly for six years”, and at times appeared to become frustrated during cross-examination from Heard’s legal team.
Depp also gave testimony last month but was recalled by his legal team to rebut allegations made by Ms Heard during her own evidence last week. He has denied all accusations. During his second round of direct evidence on Wednesday, he said: “It’s insane to hear heinous accusations of violence, sexual violence that she has attributed to me, that (Heard) accused me of. I don’t think anyone enjoys having to split themselves open and tell the truth, but there are times when one just simply has to because it’s gotten out of control.”
