Cheryl Burke has revealed that her divorce from Matthew Lawrence did make her question her sobriety.
Cheryl Burke Admits Her Divorce From Matthew Lawrence Made Her Question Her Sobriety-‘Absolutely, I’ve Thought About It’
The star had been married to Matthew for around three years until they decided to go their own way this March. In and amongst that, the dancer had spoken previously about her struggles with alcohol.
So much so that she infamously branded herself as a ‘functioning alcoholic.’ But through those moments, she managed to stay sober for three years even if it was tested by her split from Matthew.
In an interview with Us Weekly, she said: “It’s not like I miss the act of drinking. I don’t. I never liked the taste of it. It was just for the effect. Absolutely, I’ve thought about it, especially [when] I’m home alone.”
One of the reasons for this has been the difficulties that Cheryl has faced in trying to adjust with living by herself. After all, by forging so many memories with Matthew, to see that suddenly disappear was hard to take.
In addition, the prospect of dating has not made Cheryl all that enthusiastic. She added: “[The] word dating still makes her nauseous.” Not only that, but these comments are worrying for the following reasons too.
First of all, there is a chance that Cheryl could have a relapse. And by having a history of alcohol struggles, it only takes one serious event such as this to make her turn back to her old ways. Secondly, there is a feeling that she should seek some professional help to prevent things from escalating later down the line.
And yet, one way that the star has been keeping herself preoccupied has been her podcast. And through this, she is hoping to share her intimate struggles as a way to cope and for others to relate.
Her following comments confirmed as much: “We’ve got my podcast dad Sam Rubin KTLA. He is there co-hosting it with me. … And he really asks questions to my therapist.”
Time will tell if Cheryl can stay on the straight and narrow. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
