Billie Eilish has opened up on her experiences with having Tourette syndrome.
Billie Eilish Opens Up On Her Problems With Tourette Syndrome-‘Very Exhausting’
Tourette syndrome is a condition that results in someone involuntarily making movements or sounds that can include expletives. And given that she is a performer, in particular one of the biggest singers in the world, the last thing that she needs is to have this complicate her singing.
While that could have disrupted her career, it seems that Billie has not let it overwhelm her. In an interview on the ‘My Next Guest Needs No Introduction’ show, the singer said: “I wiggle my ear back and forth and raise my eyebrow and click my jaw.
“And flex my arm here and flex this arm, flex these muscles. These are things you would never notice if you’re just having a conversation with me, but for me, they’re very exhausting.”
Although it may not impact Billie in her music career, this is something that she has had to live with for a very long time. The star expanded on how she was first diagnosed with the syndrome when she was just 11-years-old.
But she noticed that when her attention was turned towards singing, then the condition did not become burdensome. So when people come across Billie during the course of a normal conversation, that is when the conversation over her Tourettes comes to the fore.
She added: “They think I’m [ticcing] as a funny move. And so they go, ‘Ha.’ And I’m always left incredibly offended by that. Or they go ‘What?’ And then I go, ‘I have Tourette’s.” The fans on social media praised Billie for speaking about this matter.
They felt that her story would serve as an example to others that it was possible to overcome this and raise awareness in the process. One person wrote: “I’m really glad she’s bringing this to light. I don’t need enough talk about Tourette syndrome on the media or anybody talking about tics in general.”
