Will Smith’s brand has been tarnished, as a result of his slapping incident involving Chris Rock at the Oscars.
PR Experts Warn That Will Smith’s ‘Brand Has Been Forever Tarnished By His Violent Actions’
That is according to several PR experts. There is no denying that Will is now more relevant than ever. Sadly, though, this is for all the wrong reasons. His behaviour has rightly been condemned on social media, which has ultimately led to his Oscar-winning performance in ‘King Richard’ being swept under the carpet.
While there are no signs that he is going to be canceled from acting anytime soon, by virtue of the fact that he does have a long list of movies that he has starred in, there is no denying that his public image has taken a hit.
Evan Nierman, who happens to be the CEO of PR firm Red Banyan, had this to say: “There is no doubt that his brand has been forever tarnished by his violent actions.
“It used to be that he was known as the ‘Fresh Prince,’ but now when we think of Will Smith we will be thinking of the ‘fresh prints’ he left across Chris Rock’s cheek.” Meanwhile, others were of the view that Will could only put this behind him if he showed some element of remorse.
An apology is not enough for him to undo the damage, while the Academy Awards have not shown much enthusiasm towards disciplining the star. And any chances of Will voluntarily giving up his Oscar are also not forthcoming.
Domenic Romano, an entertainment lawyer, revealed: “A lot will depend on what actions he takes to speak out against violence and whether he sends a clear and consistent message that his response against a poor-taste joke is not acceptable.”
As of now, Will could not be any more unpopular with the public if he tried. As for Chris, people have rallied behind the comedian to the point where his name has now been elevated to another level.
And just as Will may suffer backlash, Chris’ popularity can only go up as shown by the praise he received for keeping his cool. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this?
