Serena Williams has thrown a curveball into the mix by revealing that she isn’t against a sequel for King Richard.
Serena Williams Wants To See A ‘King Richard’ Sequel Despite Will Smith’s Slapgate Incident-‘A Lot Of Drama’
Will Smith’s performance in the movie received massive acclaim to the point where he walked away with the best actor award at the Oscars. While that may have been the case, there is no denying that the legacy of the movie had been impacted by the way in which he had lashed out by slapping comedian Chris Rock.Â
With that being said, it is not clear if the public would be open to seeing Will reprise his role in any sequel. And in any event, even if Will did not make a return to the movie, who is to say that a potential replacement could do the role justice.Â
And yet, Serena admitted that there is still plenty to cover in the story. During an interview, she said: “King Richard had a perfect ending with Venus on the tennis court … Venus goes in her direction, and I go in my direction. It’s two completely different stories.”Â
Although Serena does have a point, perhaps it is too early to talk about this. Will’s actions are still very fresh in the memory, so once the story has died down to some extent with Will having made a comeback, then it would make sense for people to discuss this eventuality.Â
And if it were to go ahead, there is always the possibility that Serena and her sister Venus could make a cameo. After all, there is plenty to cover. She added: “I had a rough journey. I didn’t do well and then I did. It’s a lot of drama. It’s a telenovela.”
The fans on social media resonated with Serena’s comments. People were of the view that the accomplishments of the two sisters were bigger than that of their father. One fan wrote: “Serena and Venus’s story should always have been told before Richard’s.”
Time will tell whether this project does end up materialising. So there you have it folks. What did you think about all of this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
