April is Sexual Assault Awareness month and many celebrities are taking to social media to make their stand on it. Cardi B is one of those celebrities and she is ready to tell her fans to stay safe and help to lower the stigma when it comes to talking about sexual assault. She took to Twitter on Thursday to explain her feelings about it and let her followers know that it is OK to speak up about it and if it happens to them.
Cardi B’s Tweets
Cardi B was quick to start posting about the month of April and the stigma that is wrapped around sexual assault and misconduct.
Cardi B Supports Sexual Assault Awareness Month
In her first tweet, she wrote, “Before April is over, don’t forget it’s sexual assault awareness month, no means no! It doesn’t matter what you wear, it doesn’t matter who you are, male or female. For anyone going through this, the shame is not yours to carry… it’s the monsters who do this.” She then followed up with a tweet to help parents with young children talk to them about some uncomfortable situations. She wrote, “Also parents we can’t forget our children. There are sick people everywhere, daycare, schools, you name it.”
She tweeted again about parents and their children, this probably comes from a place where she also wants to protect her three-year-old and 7-month-old.
She wrote, “Make sure you teach them from an early age. No one is to touch your private parts & never be afraid to tell mommy & daddy when someone makes you feel uncomfortable. Also teach them secrets are not good, no matter how small. Sadly family/friends can tell them it’s our secret and since they’re close they think it’s ok, no secrets ever!! Also, make sure you don’t use that word either with them so they know secrets are bad and shouldn’t be told.” She mentioned that when older people tell kids about secrets, it’s just one way that they manipulate them.
This is the 21st anniversary that April has been Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the month is to really focus on “both awareness and prevention of sexual assault, harassment, and abuse.” Cardi B and her husband, Offset actually talked to their fans about not sharing their child’s name with them until they felt the time was right.
They said that Internet hate was a major factor in this. “We went through a lot of sad things when it comes to our daughter, Kulture- terrible behavior that not even the older kids have ever been through. So many people post mean, disgusting things, just trying t get a reaction from us. We want to protect our feelings because we get very, very angry and upset.”
