Alex Jones Of InfoWars Files For Bankruptcy Following Sandy Hook Lawsuits

Alex Jones‘ companies have filed for bankruptcy over lawsuits from his comments on the Sandy Hook massacre being a hoax. Three entities controlled by Jones filed for Chapter 11 protections in southern Texas. The companies have estimated liabilities of as much as $10 million.

By filing for Chapter 11, his companies will have a chance to continue operating while they try to come up with a plan to turn their businesses around. It also puts a pause on any pending civil litigation.

Relatives of some of the victims of the 2012 shooting sued Jones for defamation, saying that they have been harassed and received death threats from Jones’ followers.

A judge has found Jones liable for damages and another trial has been scheduled for August that will tell how much money he will have to pay the families.

Since the shooting, Jones has changed his opinion and believes the shooting has occurred. He famously spoke about it on The Joe Rogan Experience with Joe Rogan, and was able to clear up some of his claims. However, it was too late and the damage was done.

There have been several miscues during the cases, as Jones has claimed illness has affected his ability to show up in court. He missed a deposition in Austin, Texas because he said he was ill, however, a Connecticut judge ruled last month that Jones would be reimbursed $75,000 because he did eventually show up at the rescheduled time.

This will be a huge blow for the popular personality, and his companies may not outlast this.

His attorneys have said the lawsuits were filed in order to silence Jones, and that they are violating his constitutional rights to free speech.
