Singer Lizzo has blasted the state of Texas over its decision to pass anti-transgender laws.

According to reports, the state decided to pass a law which deemed that any medical care concerning gender-affirming was deemed to be ‘child abuse.’ This was accompanied by the decision of Texas Governor, Greg Abbott to encourage medical members to report this to the authorities if it transpired that people were receiving such care.
And this was something that Lizzo could not get behind. In an official statement, she said: “They’re taking away the right for young children to have a chance to live authentically as themselves. It’s a violation of human rights. Trans rights are human rights.”
Lizzo’s concerns were picked up after the American Civil Liberties Union had filed a lawsuit against Abbot on the basis of his decision to allow the authorities to investigate parents who allowed gender-affirming care.
While this decision has been temporarily blocked by judge Amy Clark, it nevertheless shows that Lizzo’s concerns do exist. But it was not just transgender rights that Lizzo was worried about. She also expanded on how she was against the state’s abortion laws which she felt took away freedom of choice.
As of now, Texas has outlawed people from getting an abortion after approximately six weeks of the pregnancy. Not only that, if someone does do this, members from the public will be able to sue. But for Lizzo, it was about having autonomy over one’s body.
She added: “We got a lotta ugly babies y’all need to be handling instead of y’all being in people’s homes and telling them what to do with their bodies and being all up in their uteruses. The abortion ban is atrocious as well. Mind your business. Stay out of my body.”
The singer’s comments have certainly highlighted the division that exists within the state of Texas. It is ultimately a choice between pro-life or pro-choice. And with both camps having such support, it is not possible to satisfy everybody. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this?
