Actor Sam Elliott blasted the recent Netflix movie ‘Power of the Dog’ which is based on the role of cowboys in the 20th century.

Sam Elliott Slams Netflix’s ‘Power Of The Dog’ Movie-‘A Piece Of Sh*t’

Sam, for his part, is qualified to speak on such matters given his illustrious career, as well as having played a cowboy in ‘The Way West.’ He has been nominated for a whole host of awards including the Emmys, as well as Academy and Golden Globes.

While that may be the case, there was a feeling that his criticism could have gone overboard. After all, he did not shy away from the fact that the movie was atrocious.

Of particular concern was the portrayal by Benedict Cumberbatch of his character Phil Burbank. The former was a homosexual, who is keeping this quiet. Meanwhile, his character is also very hostile towards his sister-in-law, Rose, played by Kirsten Dunst.

And that mishmash of ideas was something that did not sit very well with Sam. In an interview on the ‘WTF With Marc Maron podcast,’ Sam said: “What the f–k does this woman from down there know about the American West?

“And why in the f–k did she shoot this movie in New Zealand and call it Montana? And say this is the way it was? That f–king rubbed me the wrong way, pal…[Its] a piece of sh*t.”

But it was not just the script that Sam had an issue with. He also expanded on how the costumes were outrageous. And he took particular issue with the fact that the theme of homosexuality was being portrayed throughout the movie.

While it is not clear why Sam would take issue with that, one thing for sure is that it did not help the movie, at least from his point of view. He added: “They’re running around in chaps and no shirts. There’s all these allusions of homosexuality throughout the f–king movie.”

Benedict did respond to the criticism by referring to it as odd, without going into an outright verbal tirade against Sam. But just as Sam does not like the movie,  there will equally be a number of people that do.
