Prince William and Kate Middleton have been slammed as a result of their Royal tour of the Caribbean.

The pair were not received very well, which is part of the growing anti-monarchy sentiment that has been brewing in that part of the world. This was most notably seen when the couple visited Jamaica, which was followed by a series of protests across the country condemning the Royal family over its role in the slave trade.
Although William did officially apologise for the role that the monarchy may have played in the past, the very fact of the matter is that it was a little too late. And this all came to a head when broadcaster Palki Sharma hit out at the pair over the tour.
In her comments, she said: “This trip has intended to solidify Britain’s place in the Caribbean but things did not go to plan. This tour has been a royal disaster.”
Palki does have a point. It was not just Jamaica that had protested the couple’s presence. Reports also indicate that the people of The Bahamas had staged protests against the pair. And by actually trying to save face through attending, the couple had inadvertently caused more damage to the monarchy.
Palki added: “Frankly, this should be a message to Britain, the monarchy is not your soft power anymore. It’s the opposite. They do not represent the glory days of Britain, they represent the worst of Britain…No amount of royal charm will fix that.”
The response on social media was much the same. People were of the view that the Royal family needed to rethink their state visits, as their image had been damaged. One person wrote: “This is a perfect summary of the disaster tour. Thank you.”
These are very challenging times for the monarchy. And if other regions of the world decide to adopt a similar policy towards the Royal family, then there will be serious question marks over their role. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this?
