Nicki Minaj has revealed that Kanye West turned down an opportunity to collaborate with her on his ‘Yeezy’ brand because his ex Kim Kardashian disapproved.

Nicki, for her part, will be left feeling aggrieved by virtue of the fact that the Yeezy brand has catapulted Kanye’s net worth to 9 billion and counting. Given that she could have had an opportunity to have a slice of the pie, it is understandable if she was left feeling frustrated.
After all, they did have a conversation which suggested that it was a serious possibility. In an interview on Joe Budden TV, she said: “He was like, ‘Well, if I did something with you.
“My wife probably wouldn’t love that idea because I should be giving that to my wife instead. If I was doing a female version of Yeezy it should probably go to my wife.” Despite accepting the decision, Nicki did feel like it was a missed opportunity.
She was of the view that black creators should be collaborating more with each other in order to come together. And given that Nicki is such a household name, it was a huge opportunity to tap up the female market.
This was particularly true since Nicki admitted that she had faced similar barriers to Kanye in trying to crack the fashion industry. After all, she was inspired by him in the first place.
She added: “Kanye was very vocal about the fashion industry not letting him in at one time, so if a Black female rapper, who you know has just shown herself to be sellable in the space … then when I come to you as a Black man that I look up to, I’m doing that because you inspired me.”
Who knows what would have happened if the duo decided to work together. But given the prior track record they have had in their respective fields, it certainly looked to be a recipe for success. But as Kanye is no longer with Kim, there is always the possibility that they could do this venture now. It is better late than never, as they say.
