Marlee Matlin Recalls The Death Of Her Ex William Hurt Who She Accused Of Rape-‘He Taught Me A Great Deal’
The actor passed away at the age of 71-years-old during which the pair were close. Not only did they star in the movie ‘Children of a Lesser God’, for which Marlee won an Oscar for best actress, they also began to date. Marlee, for her part, was only 19 at the time.
Meanwhile, William was 35. So when his death occurred, Marlee lamented the loss of a great actor. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, she said: “We’ve lost a really great actor and working with him on set in ‘Children of a Lesser God’ will always be something I remember very fondly.
“He taught me a great deal as an actor and he was one-of-a-kind.” Nevertheless, not everything was rosy between the pair. Marlee has previously expanded upon the abuse allegations she made against William in her book entitled ‘I’ll Scream Later.’Â
During the course of that process, she outlined how she had been raped by him. Not only that, but she also admitted how William was outraged by the fact that she had won an Oscar, when he felt there were other women that should have been worthy of it.
In the book, she had said: “[He] threw me on the bed, started ripping off his clothes and mine [and raped me].” The response on social media was one of condemnation for William. While people recognised that he was a good actor, that was not an excuse in and of itself for the things he had been accused of.
Irrespective of the fact that he is no longer here, that is something that could not be forgotten. One person wrote: “We often confuse talent with being a good person.” Regardless of what you think about William, the only person that knew him best would have been Marlee.
