Makim Chmerkovskiy wants to make it clear to everyone that he’s not the kind of person that is going to turn his back on his family. The former “Dancing With The Stars’ pro has returned to Poland with a mission to help those Ukrainian refugees that have been displaced because of the ongoing war with Russia.
It’s been nearly four weeks since Russian President Vladimir Putin invaded neighboring Ukraine in an unprovoked attack. Here’s what you need to know.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy Is Back In Poland Helping Ukrainian Refugees
Just last month Maks revealed that he feels “survivor’s remorse” since making his return to the United States from the country he once called home. And just now Maks took to Instagram Live after arriving in Poland to give fans an update on what he’s doing, or at least what he plans to do.
“Hi everybody,” he began. “I’m fine. I’m good. I spent some time at home. I enjoyed some of that Los Angeles weather. Saw my family, saw my friends, obviously spent some time. And we’ve been working. We’ve been working on tangible opportunities to help.”
And while Maks managed to get back home to Los Angeles safely, he told Good Morning America in an interview that he feels embarrassed for getting on a train and leaving Ukraine the way that he did.
“I’m still very much in that fight or flight. I’m a big boy. I know for a fact I’m going through something mentally. I know for a fact because I get into these cry moments, I’m emotional. I can’t control it,” he said. “I cried on the way from the airport. I felt embarrassed. I felt embarrassed the entire ride back because I was the only man on the train amongst all women and children… I feel guilty. I feel bad. I feel ashamed. I feel upset.”
